The San Juan Islands are an archipelago in Northwest Washington located just 90 miles Northwest of Seattle and they sit adjacent to the Canadian Gulf Islands. The Island of San Juan itself holds the county seat to San Juan County, which encompasses about 172 islands all-varying in size. Most of the residents in the San Juan Islands reside on the four Washington State Ferry system served islands; Lopez Island, Orcas Island, San Juan Island, and Shaw Island.
For traveling to and around the San Juan Islands you can choose to go by Ferry, float plane or private craft. On San Juan Island both Roche Harbor and Port of Friday Harbor offer full marina services and air landing strips. Flights from Seattle area to the San Juan Islands are a beautiful and scenic 45 minutes away. Also, be sure to visit IslandCam.
